Genealogical proof requires “reasonably exhaustive research,” preferably using original documents. Interpreting and transcribing handwritten records are essential skills for genealogists. Skills can be honed by working with a variety of pre-twentieth century American documents that are commonly encountered by genealogical researchers.

The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) in conjunction with Legacy Family Tree will present “Transcribing Documents: There is More than Meets the Eye!” by LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, CG®, CGL℠, live and free to the public at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, 16 April 2019. To accommodate those who might have schedule conflicts, the webinar can be accessed at no charge for a week after the broadcast.

LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, JD, CG®, CGL℠, is a full-time genealogist, teacher, and writer. Her research centers on African American families that survived American slavery.
