BCG - Why I Became Certified — Harold Henderson (transcript)

Hi, my name is Harold Henderson. I'm a board-certified genealogist from Laporte, Indiana. I've been certified for three months, and my basic reason for doing it was that I knew lots of people who could tell me how great I was doing, and very few people who could tell me the truth about how I was doing, and BCG will tell you things that your best friends may not tell you. One of the things that's not mentioned about certification is that you're not just learning a lot of stuff about records and about how to use them. You're also learning about what are called dispositions or temperaments, because we can all show up good in the classroom and answer the right question that the professor asks and know the right thing to do. The hard part is to learn to do the right thing at 8:30 pm in the library, when you're had a long day and you're tired and to do the right thing research wise, then, as you did in the morning when you were bright and fresh and going through the certification process, not one spot twice really taught me some of that, so I encourage everybody to try it.
