BCG - Why I Became Certified — Linda Geiger (transcript)

Good afternoon. I'm Linda Woodward Geiger, and I'm pleased to be here today to tell you about my certification. Why I became certified. I am a board-certified genealogist and Certified Genealogical Lecturer. In 1995 I became certified, and the primary motivation was that I wanted to make sure that my work for my family history was the best it could be, and the only way that I could do that was to go through the process of becoming or making an application for certification and getting the great feedback from the professionals in the field. It was only after that I became board certified that I decided that, wow, all right, well, maybe I can work for other people as well, because this is such a wonderful fun thing to do. The reason that I wanted to take clients at that particular time when I found that I was good enough to become certified. We're never good enough to be we'll never be the best we can be. We keep having to be educated. But I thought, Wow, I'm living in Georgia. My family is all in New England, and what am I going to do with certification here in Georgia? So I thought it would be great fun to learn the records of the southeast region at the National Archives, and to also learn about Georgia research. So I had a great fun with that.
