Genealogists examine lists nearly every time we conduct research, whether it be in the form of censuses, tax lists, directories, petitions, and hundreds of others. The Genealogical Proof Standard requires reasonably exhaustive research, analysis and corroboration of evidence. This presentation will demonstrate how lists can be used to meet those standards, and offers methods and tips for examining lists as a tool for proving the identity of our ancestors.

The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) will present “Using Lists to Find Proof” by Cari Taplin, CG® free to the public at 8:00 p.m. EDT, 18 September 2018.

Cari Taplin is related to Roy Rogers. Or at least that’s what her family told her. As a result, she has been working on finding her true heritage since the year 2000. She is a native of Wood County, Ohio but migrated to Wyoming, Colorado and now Pflugerville, Texas which is just outside Austin. Cari holds the Certified Genealogist® credential and has served in a wide variety of volunteer and leadership positions for several state, local, and national societies and currently serves as the Education Chair for the Austin Genealogical Society, and on the boards of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Federation of Genealogical Societies. As the owner of GenealogyPANTS, she provides speaking, research and consultation services. Cari focuses on midwestern states, methodology and researching family legends.
