5 April 2008 - Fairfax [VA] Genealogical Society Conference and Expo at Fairfax, Virginia. An exhibit booth including portfolios to view will be available.

17-19 April 2008 - Ohio Genealogical Society Conference in Cincinnati,Ohio. An exhibit booth including portfolios to view will be available.

14-17 May 2008 National Genealogical Society Annual Conference in the States, Kansas City, MO. An exhibit booth is planned with portfolios to view. Exhibit hall is free and open to the public. Each day there are BCG-sponsored lectures in the BCG Skillbuilding Track including a BCG Certification Seminar. The BCG-sponsored luncheon is open to all.

2008 BCG Education Fund Workshop at Kansas City

Evidence Evaluation - Barbara J. Mathews, CG

Students in the Hands-on workshop on evidence evaluation will have the opportunity to support different points-of-view based on analysis of documents supplied in the syllabus. We will investigate situations in which all evidence is in agreement, in which some evidence is in conflict, and for which only indirect evidence is available. After supporting their points of view in small group discussions, students will plan proof summaries.

Genealogical Documentation: What, Why, and How - Thomas W. Jones, Ph.D, CG, CGL

Participants in this hands-on workshop will learn the principles of documenting compiled genealogies, reports, lineages, and other written genealogical products. The session will cover when and what to document and the formats for documenting different kinds of sources.

Register for the workshops at the NGS website, www.ngsgenealogy.org. Attendance is limited to 60.

Speaking of Genealogy - RuthAnn Hager, CG, CGL

Has someone asked you to give a talk about genealogy and you want to accept? Are you already speaking about genealogy, but would like to polish your craft? Consider some in-depth details such as syllabus preparation, time management, and use of appropriate graphics so that when you speak about genealogy, you do so effectively.

DNA Tests: Using Genetic Data as Genealogical Evidence - Donn Devine, CG, CGL

Several case studies will illustrate current applications of DNA testing to family history research, noting how existing standards for data collection and evidence evaluation apply to this new resource.
