BCG OFFERS FREE WEBINAR Tuesday, 21 November, 8:00 p.m. Eastern
“Research in Federal Records: Some Assembly Required” by Malissa Ruffner, J.D., CG
Federal records offer genealogical gold with both direct references to our ancestors and rich contextual background information. But it can be daunting to explore record groups that are not readily available online. The wide array of tools includes paper finding aids, preliminary inventories, online indexes, web guides, and published articles, as well as the National Archives Catalog. Malissa will offer a framework and several case studies that highlight the integration of multiple research tools.
The Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) will present “Research in Federal Records: Some Assembly Required” by Malissa Ruffner, J.D., CG free to the public at 8:00 p.m. EDT, 21 November 2017.
Malissa Ruffner, CG, holds degrees in law and library science. After working in a variety of fields, she heeded the call of genealogy in 2009, becoming a Board-Certified Genealogist® in 2014. She currently serves as vice-president of the Maryland Genealogy Society and the director of the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records, held every summer at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
President Jeanne Larzalere Bloom, CG, says, “The Board for Certification of Genealogists is proud to offer this new webinar as part of an ongoing series that supports our mission to provide education for family historians. This webinar will address genealogy standards for research. By promoting a uniform standard of competence and ethics BCG endeavors to foster public confidence in genealogy.”
